Bill Reed, Integrative Design Collaborative. Inc.

Mr. Reed is president of the Integrative Design Collaborative, a consulting organization working to lift green building design practice into a practice that is fully integrated with living systems. He is allied with the strategic environmental planning firm Natural Logic, and the regenerative planning firm Regenesis. His work centers on creating the framework and managing the integrative, whole-systems design process; emphasizing the creation of evolutionary capability within the design, construction, and engagement with our environment. The objective of his work is to improve the overall quality of the physical, social and spiritual life of our living places.

Bill served as co-chair of the LEED Technical Committee from its beginning through 2003; is a member of the LEED Advanced faculty; a founding Board Member of the U.S. Green Building Council; and served on the national executive committee of the AIA Committee On The Environment. He currently serves on the Board of the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association and as an advisor to Environmental Building News. He presents a deeper way of conceptualizing and realizing Sustainable Design in lectures and publications throughout the world. His clients range from New York City Department of Design and Construction, U.S. General Services Administration, Loreto Bay, Baja, Mexico, Sidwell Friends School, US Green Building Council, Genzyme Corporation, Teknion, LLC, the Willow School, various city planning agencies on the East and West coast, and many private development companies in North America and Canada.

Gail Lindsey, FAIA, Design Harmony, Inc.

Ms. Lindsey, distinguished as a Fellow in the American Institute of Architects, is the founder and president of the Wake Forest, NC company, Design Harmony, Inc. A leader in environmentally conscious architecture, the firm’s work has been published in several books as examples of good green design. She consults on architectural projects, undertakes green building research, and provides sustainable design training and “greening” charrette facilitation. She is a past Chair of the National AIA Committee on the Environment, former Chair of the North Carolina Green Building Council, and is an advisory board member of Environmental Building News. She is an internationally known consultant, facilitator, and speaker. She has given over 200 workshops and presentations on Green Architecture.

Gail has been instrumental in the following: The Greening of the White House, The Greening of the Pentagon, The Sustainable Design Initiatives for the National Park Service, the Department of Defense’s Sustainable Design Training Program, and is one of the creators of the interactive CD ROM Green Building Advisor. She has been closely involved with (from their earliest inceptions) the LEED rating system, the North Carolina Triangle J High Performance Guidelines, the Army’s SPiRiT rating system, and the International Green Building Challenge Assessment Tool. She is a member of the LEED Advanced faculty and one of the first of twelve USGBC trainers of the LEED Rating System. In addition, Gail has co-chaired the U.S. Team for the international Green Building Challenge since 1996. She is constantly exploring the idea of how we evaluate the economic, environmental, and social impacts of our design and construction choices; and constantly questioning if our greening actions are indeed improving the health of our planet.

John Boecker, 7group

John Boecker currently serves as a partner in 7group, a green building consulting firm, and as Vice President, Director of High Performance Green Design for L. Robert Kimball & Associates Architects and Engineers, where he concentrates his architectural practice on designing High Performance Green Buildings as a LEED Accredited Professional. 7goup is a multi-disciplinary consulting group focused on green development and collaboration with developers, architects, engineers, government, and building owners engaged in sustainable projects. 7group is one of five firms in the nation selected by the USGBC to prepare LEED Credit Interpretation Rulings and to review LEED Certification submissions.

John also serves on the U.S. Green Building Council’s (USGBC) national LEED Steering Committee, as Chair of the LEED Curriculum & Accreditation Committee, as Chair of the Green Building Association of Central Pennsylvania (an Affiliate of the USGBC), and teaches LEED Advanced Workshops as an appointed LEED Faculty Member with the USGBC. He has practiced architecture in New Haven, Pittsburgh and Los Angeles, and has designed five LEED Certified buildings, including two of the first 15 buildings nationwide to achieve LEED Certification. He also serves currently as Green Design and LEED Consultant on over 30 additional projects. His design work has been recognized by over 40 design awards, including 25 Awards for Design Excellence from the American Institute of Architects and selection twice by the United States team to participate in the Green Building Challenge (GBC). He taught Architectural Design at Carnegie Mellon University, and now teaches Architectural Design at Harrisburg Area Community College. He also served as the founding Chair of the Pennsylvania AIA Committee on the Environment, and he lectures frequently throughout the U.S. about the benefits of designing High-Performance Green Buildings. He holds a degree in Architecture from Penn State and a Master of Architecture degree from Yale University.

Joel Ann Todd, environmental consultant

Joel Ann Todd is an environmental consultant with experience in conducting research, writing, and speaking on sustainable design, as well as designing and reporting on charrettes. She is currently Vice Chair of the U.S. Green Building Council’s Technical and Scientific Advisory Committee. Ms. Todd’s publications range from technical papers in peer reviewed journals to articles in popular magazines, book chapters, government reports, and “how to” guides. Subject matter has included assessments of building materials (for the Environmental Resource Guide), innovative concepts for environmental life cycle assessment (for the Journal of Life Cycle Assessment, Time Saver Standards, Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, and others), and building performance measurement (for the Federal Energy Management Program, the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, and others). She also wrote several chapters for the second edition of Greening Federal Facilities. She currently works with Ms. Lindsey on a charrette series for the National Park Service. She has also worked on charrettes for the U.S. Department of Energy and other organizations, and co-authored a handbook on charrette design and implementation, published by the Department of Energy. She has served on the U.S. Team for Green Building Challenge and has led work groups to develop new methods for that project.

Nadav Malin, BuildingGreen, Inc.

Mr. Malin is vice president of BuildingGreen, Inc. and serves as editor of Environmental Building News, a monthly newsletter on environmentally responsible design and construction and coeditor of the GreenSpec product directory. He is chair of the Materials and Resources Technical Advisory Group for the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED® Rating System, a LEED Trainer, and a LEED Accredited Professional. Nadav consults and lectures widely on sustainable design, with a particular focus on green materials. In addition to running LEED training workshops, he has taught seminars for various USGBC chapters, CSI chapters, state AIA chapters, and private architecture firms. He also served on the U.S. team for Green Building Challenge, manages the U.S. Department of Energy's High Performance Buildings Database project, and leads the content development team for Web and software resources at BuildingGreen.com.
